Malcolm Nance joined the US Navy in 1981, joining the specialized field of naval cryptology. Using his linguistic skills, he entered the intelligence/counterterrorism wing and became a SERE (survival, evasion, resistance, and escape) training Navy and Marine Corps pilots and aircrew on how to survive as a prisoner of war.
He then got involved in many counter-terrorism, intelligence, and combat operations and also garnered expertise within the fields of intelligence and counterterrorism.
He took part in the combat operations that followed the 1983 bombing of US and French barracks in Beirut and was peripherally involved in the US attack on Libya in retaliation for the West Berlin discotheque terrorist bombing in 1986. Nance retired from the army in 2001.
In 2007, Nance wrote an article called ‘Waterboarding is Torture… period’ which criticizes waterboarding for the counterinsurgency blog Small Wars Journal and has published several books like ‘The Plot to Destroy Democracy’ in 2018 and the following year he published ‘The Plot to Destroy America’.
