23-years-old Man allege raped and strangled his 5-years-old niece Paitin Fields in 2017

Paitin Fields, a little girl was strangled to death in November 2017. Almost five years later, the Pender County Sheriff’s office announced charges against the suspect on Friday, February 4.
On 13 November 2017, the victim, Paitin Fields was taken to Pender Memorial hospital in North Carolina. She died in the hospital three days later. The medical examiner stated that she had ligature marks on her neck when she was brought to the hospital.
According to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s office, her postmortem reportedly indicated signs of raped and strangulation. Authorities said,
“An autopsy showed signs of sexual trauma and strangulation”.

Who is David Prevatte?
David, was a North Carolina suspect in the 2017 rape and killing of his own niece. Recently, he was arrested after almost five years of a lengthy investigation. According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre, David, 23 was arrested in the community of Bayou Blue, about 50 miles southwest of New Orleans.
When he was named as a suspect in 2018, he endeavored to maintain his innocence and said to authorities that “he is trying to help the girl after finding her unresponsive and apparently seizing”. In 2019, he was taken into custody on unrelated charges of “intimidating a witness, breaking and entering, larceny, and burning a building”.

When he was still jailed on those charges he allegedly made threats on the phone to his mother about the lead investigator in the case. Later on, he was released in January 2020 but eventually tracked his location by the Pender County Sheriff’s Office to Bayou Blue.
Webre said in the release,
“Through investigation, the Pender County Sheriff’s Office obtained an arrest warrant for Prevatte for first degree murder, first degree statutory rape, and statutory sex offense with child by adult,”
Tribute to the late Paitin Fields by her close ones
On Friday after Prevatte has been behind bars Marie Spaulding, Paitin’s aunt paid tribute to the loss of the little girl.
She wrote on her respective Facebook handle,
“This was the last picture I have of Paitin that I have on my pictures. To everyone that knows our story and what happened to Paitin, we got answers today and someone was charged in her death,”
She recalled, “Every time I seen her she was smiling and would come running up to me and say ‘Hey, Aunt Ree Ree!,” And said, “She could have been the next president. She could have been Miss USA,”
She also thanked the Pender Co Sheriff’s department,
“I believe that’s why it rain off and on today to wash some my pain way. Yes I break down and cried today because I was relieved. Thank You Pender Co Sheriff department. #justicefor paitinfields#forever5.”
Further, Local North Carolina leader Dorian Cromartie who has been advocated for justice for the little girl since she died says,
“What happened to Paitin is horrific, tragic, and unforgivable. We will never know what her potential was going to be or what she could have contributed to this world. Her life was cut short by a monster.”
