Manuel Locatelli (8 January 1998) born in Lecco Italy is a professional Italian football player who plays as a midfielder for Serie A club Sassuolo. Likewise, he represents the national team of Italy.

Early Career and Football Debut

At the early age of 11, Locatelli began his career representing the Serie A team, Atalanta. He was a talented and a playmaker since his childhood. Therefore, it didn’t take much time for him to adapt to Atalanta. Later, he signed his first professional contract with A.C Milan in March 2015 which would be effective until 30 June 2018.

His Career in A.C Milan

On 22 September 2015, Locatelli was called up to A.C Milan’s senior team. It was before the away game against Udinese that was on 22 September 2015. However, he couldn’t show his game and remained a substitute till the end of the game. At the near end of the season, he got promoted into the first team of A.C Milan by the former head coach Siniša Mihajlović. Finally, he made his Serie A debut on 21 April 2016, in the replacement of Andrea Poli after the long 87 minutes in a 0−0 home draw against Carpi. On 14 May 2016, he played as a first-team player in the last league match of the season against Roma at A.c Milan’s home San Siro.

2016–17 season

He made the 2016 season debut with a heroic 1–0 victory against Sampdoria where he was a second-half substitute. On 2 October 2016, Locatelli scored his first Serie A goal with his first shot in a sensational 4–3 win over Sassuolo.  On 22 October, Locatelli scored with his second ever Serie A goal against Juventus that went past beating the keeper Gianluigi Buffon. After a good season, Locatelli extended his contract until 30 June 2020, with the rise in wages.

2017-18 Season

On August 3, 2017, Locatelli began the 2017 season in a starting lineup in the second leg game of the Europa League qualification match. It resulted in a 2-0 win against CS U Craiova. However, Vincenzo Montella changed his game formation which started to lessen his playing time. In November 2017, Montella left the club and Gennaro Gattuso replaced him. Similarly, It regained his place in the team again. At the end of the season, he had only 15 start-up appearances 5 in Serie A, and 18 sub-in appearances.

His Career in Sassuolo

In 2018, Milan considered a lack of trust in him and loaned him to Sassuolo without a buy-out option. Locatelli agreed on the terms of his transfer. Hence, Locatelli transferred to Sassuolo on loan with an obligation to buy on 13 August 2018. For Sassuolo, he made 31 appearances in the season and scored 3 goals which are against Catania in Coppa Italia and Cagliari and Chievo Verona in Serie A.

International Career, Professional Debut

Manuel made his senior debut as a starter on 7 September 2020 in the Italy squad in the UEFA Nations League match. It was a match against the Netherlands in Amsterdam which resulted in a 1-0 win in favor of Italy. On 28th March 2021, Locatelli scored his first goal for Italy in a 2–0 away win over Bulgaria in a 2022 World Cup qualification match.

In June 2021, Manager Roberto Mancini included him in Italy’s squad for UEFA Euro 2020. Likewise, he is popular for his excellent vision, passing, ball control, dribbling, and powerful and accurate shot from long distances.
