Marvin Winans was born Marvin Lawrence Winans on the 5th of March 1958 in Detroit, Michigan. His late father, David Glenn Winans Sr. was a Gospel singer. Also, his mother, Delores Winans is a musical artist.

Marvin Winans has nine siblings that include six brothers, David, Ronald, Carvin, Michael, Daniel, and Benjamin ad three younger sisters, CeCe, Angelique, and Debra.

In the ’70s, Marvin Winans started his career along with his brothers Ronald, Carvin, and Michael as Testimonial singers. Later, in 1995, they named the group The Winans. 

Moving forward, in 1981, the group released its debut album, Introducing The Winans. Later, in 1985, he earned a Grammy for the song, Bring Back the Days of Yea and Nay. Apart from singing for the group, he was also active as a songwriter.

In 1989, Marvin Winans founded the church Perfecting Church in his hometown, Detroit. Along with the church, he runs a school, Marvin L. Winans Academy of Performing Arts. Also, he is a pastor of the church.

In 2007, he released his debut solo single, Alone, But Not Alone. Moving forward, on the 26th of June 2012, he launched the album, Marvin L. Winans Presents The Praise and Worship Experience. 

The album was featured by artists including Don Moen, Marvin Sapp, and Donnie McClurkin.

Apart from the rest, Marvin Winans was also featured in movies like I Can Do Bad All by Myself and 2011 Mama I Want to Sing.
