It is a sad ending to a marriage of nice years! The former rugby player from the UK, Matt Dawson, and his wife of nine years, Carolin have separated. He announced the news on his Twitter handle.

The former England rugby player, Matt Dawson announced on his Twitter handle that he and his wife Carolin have decided to separate.

He tweeted:

“We know this will be a surprise to most but after 11 years together Carolin and I have decided our relationship needs a new direction, bringing our marriage to an end. 

“The love for our beautiful boys grows stronger day by day as does our friendship as co-parents.”

Asking for privacy and support, Matt further wrote:

“To our dear friends please continue to support us as positively as you can for the next stage of our lives. It’s vital that Alex and Sami understand that we will always be a united family.”

The relationship timeline of the couple

Matt is 47 years of age now. He grew up in Buckinghamshire. He was good at both cricket and football during his growing years. Matt began dating former model, Carolin Hauskeller in the year 2009. Carolin was born in Germany. After two years of dating, they wed in 2011.

The couple has two children. Both are sons and are called Alex and Sami. They are still minors and hence probably the couple will apply for joint custody of their kids. Matt has Lyme disease. He contracted it from the bite of a tick in a London Park in 2016. In 2017, he joined The Big Tick Project to raise awareness about the disease in the UK.

In 2016, one of his sons was 2 years of age and suffered from meningitis. Matt had talked about it and said that those days were like hell for the family. They went through a lot and luckily his son was saved. Matt and Carolin have seen the ups and downs in life together. Matt and his career

In 1991, Matt played for Northampton Club. In 1993, he was a member of the England sevens team and won the inaugural Sevens World Cup in Scotland. Later, in 1995, he started international play and played for England. He captained his team in 1998. Later, in 2000, he was again captain at the Six Nations. He suffered a bad neck injury in 2002 and retired from play in 2006.

Matt did some media work and also is into charitable projects. He was on the BBC show A Question of Sport. But just a few days back, he announced that he would be stepping down as the team captain on the show after 16 years on it. His fellow team captain Phil Tufnell and show host Sue Barker have also left the show.
