Moby: His new anti-Trump controversial video, his take on it and his concern about the world: Read on it here!
- After Kathy Griffin, it is now Moby!
Moby’s new music video
American DJ, musician, singer-songwriter, and record producer Moby believes strongly that the world is just a millimeter away from collapse’.
This concern is already housed in his mind, but he wants everyone else also to ponder over it. He has come out with a new song for his album called ‘More Fast Songs About the Apocalypse’.
In a recent phone conversation about this new album, Moby said:
“We’re slowly building awareness and you just hope that the awareness comes before we end up on a planet that’s uninhabitable,”
He has expressed his frustration and sadness at the fact that media only publishes ‘dramatic’ stories and is not concerned about slow killers such as antibiotic resistance and climate change which are nonetheless important.
He worries that the world will end and nobody has time to make note of this point.
Hence, in order to make his point clear, Moby also has decided to put some drama into his new music album.
What is Moby’s new music video all about?
In his new music video titled ‘In this cold place’, Moby has defiantly depicted President Donald Trump as a Nazi-esque leader who uses a missile-firing machine in the shape of a swastika and dollar symbol.
At the end of the video, Moby has shown that the Donald machine blows up and the oppressed people of the world rise up against him. English illustrator and animator Steve Cutts has worked with Moby on this video.
Talking about the time that they were in the process of creating the video, Moby said:
“He’d send me a drawing, almost with a little hesitation, saying, ‘Oh, do you think we can get away with this?’. And I was like, yeah, why not, just make it, go as far you want.”
Moby pushed Cutts to make the video more dystopian and extreme. And the result is clear!
The video presents a cautionary tale on how the rich are sucking the money out of the economy. The video talks about how Trump has used a deadly means to rise and at the same time presenting himself as a good old man and a safe politician.
In the final part of the video, the commoners are shown toppling the aristocracy. Finally, the video discloses that all this is in the maker’s mind.
Art versus Trump
Art depicting violence against Donald Trump’s policies has recently been seen and is a controversial issue. Kathy Griffin in May 2017 had released a photo of holding a gory Trump’s head.
Last week, a modified version of Julius Caeser was presented at the Public Theater in New York wherein the end a Trump-esque character was stabbed to death by the other politicians.
Snoop Dogg had in early 2017 released a music video in which he aimed a gun at a joker who looked like Trump. These had a lot of controversies, protests, and support.

Moby’s thinking
Moby was not cowed down by any comments or scandals that come with his video. When the video was in the making, Moby told Huffington Post:
“The criteria that you would use to determine where you draw the line is simply what’s effective and what’s legal,”
He added:
“And I don’t mean legal in a cowardly way. I mean legal in a way that would lead something to be taken off the internet. Because you can make the best content in the world but if YouTube and Facebook won’t let people see it, then what’s the point of having this great content.”
The music video has been released under his ‘Moby & The Void Pacific Choir moniker’. Moby says:
“I think that we’ve managed [to] be on the legal side of copyright violation. Like everything in there looks familiar but nothing is a direct rip-off of existing copyright. Or so I am hoping.”
