Muhammad Ali and his dark side: infidelities, multiple marriages, illegitimate children and more!

Muhammad Ali (1942-2016) was one of the greatest boxers of all times. He belonged to the USA and had boxed professionally for more than two decades of his life. A lot has been talked about his professional life but not many are aware of his personal life. Muhammad was married five times and had nine children in total.

Muhammad Ali and his first wife

American professional boxer, Muhammad Ali fought 61 times and won 56 times while losing 5 matches. He was very successful in his boxing career but the same cannot be said of his personal life.

Muhammad met cocktail waitress, Sonji Roi and took her out for a date. He asked her to marry him after that and she accepted his proposal. on 14 August 1964, the two wed and this was just a month after they met. The boxer was 22 years old at that time.

Their married life was full of quarrels. The reason for the fights was Sonji’s refusal to join the Nation of Islam (a religious and political organization in the USA founded in 1930). Muhammad had said:

“She wouldn’t do what she was supposed to do. She wore lipstick; she went into bars; she dressed in clothes that were revealing and didn’t look right.”

They had no child and split on 10 January 1966.

Muhammad and his more marriages, children, and infidelities

The American boxer later met and married Belinda Boyd in 1967 on 17 August. The two knew each other before and had met at their village mosque when she was ten. She and her family were also members and followers of the Nation of Islam.

The couple had four children together. They are Maryum who is an author and rapper and was born in 1968, twins Jamillah and Rasheda whom the couple welcomed in 1970, and Muhammad Ali Jr. who was delivered in 1972.

The marriage was riddled with Muhammad’s multiple infidelities. Muhammad had an extramarital affair with Patricia Harvell and their daughter Miya was born in 1972. Later, he impregnated Wanda Bolton, 16 in 1974 who gave birth to their daughter, Khaliah. He also married Wanda in 1975. Moreover, he went on to wed actress Veronica Porche in 1977.

Belinda ended her marriage with Muhammad in 1977 due to his cheating scandals. With Veronica, Muhammad had two daughters, Hana and Laila (born in December 1977).

But he did not stop there and his extramarital affairs continued. Tired of it, fourth wife Veronica divorced Muhammad in 1986. Describing his sex addiction, Veronica had said:

“It was too much temptation for him, with women who threw themselves at him, It didn’t mean anything. He didn’t have affairs – he had one-night stands. I knew beyond a doubt there were no feelings involved. It was so obvious, It was easy to forgive him.”

Muhammad’s fifth marriage and illegimate kids

The boxer wed Yolanda “Lonnie” Williams on 19 November 1986. They adopted a baby boy together who was born in 1986 and named Asaad.

Later, Kiiursti Mensah-Ali came forward and stated that she was Muhammad’s biological daughter and her mother was Barbara Mensah who had a relationship with Muhammad for nearly twenty years. And in 2010, Osmon Williams, son of Temica Williams (also known as Rebecca Holloway) and born in 1977 also claimed that his father was boxer Muhammad.

Muhammad would get homeless people home and give them shelter in his guest room. His friend and biographer Thomas Hauser had said that Muhammad always wanted people to be happy.
