Filmmaker Nick Guthe has found love again.

Just a year ago, he was mourning the death of his late wife Heidi Ferrer. Heidi who was suffering from COVID struggled a lot as the disease ravaged her body. She could not take it any longer, so she killed herself.

The former Dawson Creek screenwriter was just 50.

The death of Heidi took a toll on Nick’s mental health so he leaned on Diana Berrent, the founder of Survivor Corps, a COVID support and advocacy group.

Diana, 48, is the mother of two children.

Talking about how their love blossomed, Nick said:

”I believe that Heidi led me to her.”
”It seems like a strange thing to say, but the way that everything happened was so extreme, so violent, so beyond what I would ever wish on my worst enemy, to have to go through what I went through, what my son went through.”

Nick revealed that his wife was battling extreme Covid symptoms before her death in May 2021.

With her health collapsing, Heidi went from a bubbly, positive, and full-of-life person to someone who started feeling like a burden on her husband and their 13-year-old son, Bexon.

Talking about her condition during her final stage, Nick recalled:

“In the last few weeks, she was really worried that there was only one trajectory, and it was ending up in a wheelchair, unable to bathe herself, unable to do anything.”

How did Nick and Diana meet?

After Heidi’s suicide, Nick reached out to Diana via text and then connected by phone later.

Then they started having hours of conversations which led to their romance that grew as they joined hands together to save the lives of other COVID sufferers.

The connection between them grew deeper when they met in person.

Praising Diana, Nick said:

“She gave me permission to be as vulnerable as I’ve ever been in front of another human being. I learned I could trust her with my innermost feelings.”

Diana, on the other hand, was facing a tragedy of her own. Her marriage was failing and her mother was in the last stage of cancer. Nick supported her through it all.

Now they are a happily engaged couple.
