Who is Paul Kaye?

Paul Kaye is an English comedian and actor, well known for his role as interviewer Dennis Pennis on The Sunday Show.

Also, he is best known for his roles as New York Lawyer Mike Strutter on MTV’s Strutter, as Thoros of Myr in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and as Vincent the Fox in the BBC comedy Mongrels.

Paul was born on December 15, 1964, in the Clapham area of London. He is of Jewish descent and belongs to British nationality. Jackie and Ivan Kaye adopted him and his twin sister.

They were raised in Wembley, where their parents used to run a sportswear shop. He was a high school athlete who had an impressive 100-meter time.

Paul Kaye enrolled at Harrow Art School at the age of 16, on a two-year foundation course, and obtained a distinction before earning a first-class degree from Nottingham Trent University in Theatre Design.

Kaye filmed a prototype Dennis Pennis in 1993, interviewing his own band on Granada TV’s late-night indie music show Transmission. The Word was his TV debut, being secretly filmed in Oliver Reed’s dressing room.

Dennis Pennis, a celebrity interviewer created by Kaye and Hines was one of Kaye’s most well-known characters. After several two brief appearances as Pennis presenting Transmission, the character made a second appearance in 1995 on BBC2’s The Sunday Show.

The character was killed off in the final video release by Dennis Pennis RIP: Too Rude to Live which was released in 1997. Dennis Pennis had reportedly become too expensive as Kaye reportedly explained.

Paul Kaye made an appearance in the Fat Les song Vindaloo music video in 1988. Also, he made an appearance in the TV comedy film You are Here as DI Lindsay De Paul in the same year.

In 2000, Kaye took a dramatic role alongside Michelle Collins in Two Thousand Acres of Sky. In the film Blackball, he played the leading role 2004. Furthermore, he played Dr. David Carney in Shadowplay in two episodes of the BBC drama series Waking the Dead.

He appeared as a character called Maurice in the UK TV adverts for betting website BetVictor from August 2012. Kaye portrayed Brother Lucian in the Dracula Untold movie in 2014.

Moreover, Paul appeared in the BBC drama The Interceptor in 2015 as a criminal. He played Vinculus in Susanna Clarke’s Jonathon Strange & Mr. Norrell the same year.

He made his acting debut in 2019 in the ITV dramedy Cold Feet as hospital chaplain Daniel Booth and appeared in the Netflix comedy series After Life as a psychiatrist.

Later, Paul Kaye portrayed The Cowboy in the HBO miniseries The Third Day and made an appearance as Patrick Katz in the Netflix drama The Stranger in 2020. He appeared as Guy Forks in a BBC Bonfire Night Special adaptation of Mackenzie Crooks Worzel Gummidge in 2021.
