Phil Collins’s unfortunate accident

On 7^th June 2017, English singer-songwriter and record producer Phil Collins suffered an accident. He slipped into the hotel bathroom. This was announced by his team using a statement on Facebook.

It said:

“Phil suffers from ‘drop foot’ as a result of a back operation which makes it difficult to walk. He rose in the middle of the night to go to the toilet and slipped in his hotel room, hitting his head in the fall on a chair, He was taken to hospital where he had stitches for a severe gash on his head close to his eye and is recovering well, He will be kept under observation for 24 hours.”

Due to this serious injury, Phil Collins has canceled his performances at Royal Albert Hall, London which were scheduled for 8^th and 9^th June 2017.

The post continued:

“Phil sends his sincere apologies and thanks to fans. He has had a fantastic week at his first shows in 10 years, cannot thank people enough for their warm reaction and is excited to return.
These Royal Albert Hall shows will be rearranged for November 26th and 27th this year. All tickets for June 8th will be valid for November 26th and tickets for June 9th will be valid for November 27th.
He will carry on with this tour on Sunday in Cologne and then Paris before returning to London for his headline performance at BST Hyde Park on June 30th.”

His 28-year-old daughter actress Lily Collins assured her father’s fans and said:

“He’s doing good, thank you”.

She was at the premiere of her movie ‘Okja’ on the night of 8^th June 2017. Lately, Phil Collins has been using a cane and also giving his performances sitting down on a chair.

A reliable source also said:

“Phil is in a bad way with his head in bandages. He is conscious and talking, but he is frustrated and upset about having to cancel in his gigs.”

Lily’s letter of forgiveness to her father

Phil Collins has been married to three women. Phil’s first wife was his classmate Andrea Bertorelli. They got married in 1975 and separated in 1980. They have a son called Simon Collins together.

Collins met his second wife Jill Tavelman in 1980. They married in 1984 and their daughter Lily Collins was born in 1989. The couple divorced in 1996. Phil married his third wife a Swiss national called Orianne Cevey in 1999.

Orianne Cevey is 22 years younger than Phil. They have two sons Nicholas and Matthew. Phil also adopted Bertorelli’s daughter Joely. Phil divorced Orianne Cevey in 2008 and the divorce suit was settled at $ 46.76 million.

Lily was just 7 years old when her father left her and her mother. She was quite upset with her father over it. Her relations with her father were also tumultuous. Her problems including her eating disorder increased when her father was having a divorce from his third wife.

Talking of that phase, Lily says:

“I couldn’t handle the pain and confusion surrounding my dad’s divorce, and I was having a hard time balancing being a teenager with pursuing two different grown-up careers.”

Lily has penned her turbulent times and relations with her father in her new memoir titled ‘Unfiltered: No Shame, no regrets, Just Me’ which she released on 7^th March 2017.

She has also included an emotional letter of forgiveness to her father in this memoir and she wants it to be a source of inspiration to those young girls who are struggling for a peaceful relationship with their fathers.

Lily wrote:

“We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past. I’m learning how to accept your actions and vocalize how they made me feel. I accept and honor the sadness and anger I felt toward the things you did or didn’t do, did or didn’t give me.”

She has also said that her deepest insecurities are due to her issues with her dad. Despite her troubled life phases, Lily says that she is ready to move on in life and has forgiven her father. She is now looking forward to nurturing a healthy relationship with her father.

She has also mentioned in her book:

“I forgive you for not always being there when I needed and for not being the dad I expected. I forgive the mistakes you made. And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward.”

Phil’s remarriage to his third wife

Though Phil Collins divorced his third wife, he reconciled with her in February 2016 and now they live together in Miami. He told ‘the Sunday Times’ that their relationship has matured and is different now since he has grown older. He revealed:

“She goes out and does stuff with her girlfriends. I can’t be doing all that. I said to her when we got back together, ‘You’ve got the older model now. I’m not going to go out and socialize, it doesn’t interest me.’ I don’t go to bed late — 9:30, 10. She sometimes doesn’t come back till 1 or 2 in the morning.”

Orianne Cevey also told a Swiss newspaper ‘SonntagsBlick’ that Phil and she are considering remarriage. She said:

“I call Phil now again as my husband. We are so close that it actually makes no difference whether we are married. But we are determined to get married one day a second time,”

She continued:

“Love was never completely gone. [It] was just on another level. We’ve known each other for 22 years, 15 as a couple. Now we feel both the same thing: We should never have diverged. The separation was the wrong decision . . . We are meant for each other.”

She added:

“The important difference is that now our children can be there. I imagine the next celebration will be more familiar and smaller. On our first wedding in 1999 in Lausanne, we had to invite many more people to not disappoint anyone. We were always very close, because of the children. But just last year, I realized that he is indeed the man of my life.”
