Pierre-Louis Padang Coffin famously known as Pierre Coffin was born on March 16, 1967, in France, to Yves Coffin, a French diplomat, and Nh. Dini (Nurhayati Srihardini Siti Nikitin), is an Indonesian writer and feminist.

His father’s position required Coffin and his sister, Marie-Claire, to relocate to several Asian countries before settling in a suburb of Paris in the 1970s.

There, he developed an interest in drawing and literature, initially as a means of entertaining himself, as his father would now allow him to watch television at home.

Pierre Coffin was trained at the Gobelins animations school in Paris and started to work at Amblimation, the 2D London-based facility, where he worked on the Seven Spielberg-executive-produced We’re Back! A Dinosaur’s Story.

He then started as a freelance animator in the French CGI studio Ex Machina where he worked as an animator and eventually animation supervisor.

Both Coffin and Renaud provided the voices of the Minions, who spouted an indecipherable language cobbled from Spanish, Italian, and Malay and liberal amounts of gibberish.

A huge box office hit as well as a Golden Globe nominee for Best Animated Feature Film, “Despicable Me” was soon followed by an even bigger sequel, “Despicable Me 2” (2013), again directed by Coffin and Renaud, which earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.

Two years later Coffin teamed with Kyle Balda to direct “Minions”, a standalone showcase for the tiny servants, which grossed over $761 million.
