On December 29, 2017, he made his debut against, Vitoria de  Setubal.

On February 3, 2018, he scored his first brace against Rio Ave, for Benfica. During his year at Benfica, he has played 91 matches and nine goals.

Subsequently, he signed the deal with Manchester City on September 29, 2020. He was captain of Manchester for the first time during the 2021 season and provided an assist for Jack Grealish on 15 September 2021.

Making an International debut, he has represented Portugal in various championships, under-16, and under-17 sides, Dias captained the Portuguese U-19 team at the 2016 Euro U19 and the Under 20 teams at the U-20 World Cup in 2017.

On March 15, 2018, he was named to the senior team by the Portuguese manager Fernando Santos. He played his debut game against Egypt and Netherlands on March 15, 2018, during an international friendly match.

He played for the Portugal team under the captainship of a professional footballer, Cristiano Ronaldo, during the 2018 FIFA World Cup which was hosted by Russia.

Rúben Dias was enlisted in Portugal’s preliminary 55-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar in October 2022.

During the opening match at 947 Stadium Qatar, Portugal beat Ghana by 3-2 on November 24, Thursday, 2022 at FIFA World Cup 2022.

With a strong ongoing match, Portugal won over Uruguay by 2-0, on November 28, 2022, at Lusail Stadium, Qatar.

Recently, On December 2, 2022, Portugal played against South Korea at Education City Stadium and lost the match by 2-1 in the end.
