Sara Sidner revealed her health status live on CNN News Central, revealing that she has been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.

She announced during the Monday’s broadcast,

“I have never been sick a day of my life. I don’t smoke, I rarely drink, Breast cancer does not run in my family, and yet, here I am with stage 3 breast cancer. It is hard to say out loud.”

Sidner disclosed that she is presently in the second month of chemotherapy. Similarly, she had undergone radiation therapy and a double mastectomy as part of her treatment plan.

The presenter then remained optimistic about her health, saying that breast cancer “is not a death sentence anymore for most women.”

Sara continued by discussing her studies on breast cancer, providing data from the American Cancer Society. She explained,

“If you happen to be a Black woman, you are 41 percent more likely to die from breast cancer than your white counterparts, So to all my sisters, Black and white and brown out there, please, for the love of God, get your mammograms every single year Do your self-exams. Try to catch it before I did.”

She then concludes the discussion by expressing her gratitude in some way for her diagnosis, which forced her to reconsider her life outlook.

“I have thanked cancer for choosing me. I’m learning that no matter what hell we go through in life, that I am still madly in love with this life. And just being alive feels really different for me now. I am happier because I don’t stress about foolish little things that used to annoy me. And now, every single day that I breathe another breath, I can celebrate that I am still here with you.”

Sara talked candidly about her health situation after being diagnosed with breast cancer. She said,

“I am fatigued and I am slower, and I have to be more thoughtful about how I take care of myself.

Similarly, she decided to openly discuss her sickness before it became too clear to conceal. She shared,

“The bald truth is my hair’s coming out. If I’m having a bad hair day, I know about it. If I’m having a good hair day, I also know about that.”

Sidner is undergoing cold capping therapy as part of her treatment to combat hair loss. However, she claims that the alterations are noticeable.

“I don’t put my personal stuff out there that often, but I can do something for someone because I have cancer. I can warn somebody. I don’t know how this is going to end … [but] we have the ability to feel joy at any point as long as we’re breathing”
