Shannen Doherty clapped back at conspiracy theorists for going wild with ideas about Princess Catherine‘s health before she finally announced her cancer.
The Beverly Hills, 90210 alum who is suffering from stage 4 breast cancer and had to remove a brain tumor in 2023 shared an Instagram statement on Friday. It read,
“Being a public figure does not mean the public owns that person,”
“We ALL have the right to go through illness or life privately.”
The former reality star added,
“The onslaught of conspiracy theories, ownership, and plain, morbid curiosity forced this person to explain herself before she had come to terms with it and explained to her children,”
“I pray this is a learning moment for us all to respect, privacy or others, regardless of being in the public eye.”
The 52-year-old actress continued,
“And Princess Kate I admire your strength through the endless onslaught you’ve been under while going thru (sic) cancer.”
Media and internet users had their conspiracy theories due to the future Queen’s lack of public presence after she underwent abdominal surgery in January. Some even speculated that she was in a coma or was dealing with her husband’s infidelity rumors which turned out to be false.
However, on Friday, Catherine, 42, shocked everyone when she announced she had started chemotherapy treatments after healing from her surgery.
In her video announcement, the mom of three said,
“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London, and at the time, it was thought that my condition was noncancerous. The surgery was successful,”
“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”
The royal also extended her gratitude to fans for their messages of kindness and support and requested that she and her family be given the time and space to handle her health privately.
She noted,
“As I have said to them, I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal, in my mind, body and spirits,”
Catherine didn’t reveal what type of cancer she was diagnosed with.
How did royal family members and celebs react to Catherine’s cancer news?
Following her announcement, the princess was showered with thousands of get-well-soon messages.
A palace spokesperson revealed that King Charles III is very proud of Catherine for her courage in speaking her truth. The King, 75, revealed his own cancer diagnosis in February after having surgery for an enlarged prostate.
The insider said that Charles and Camilla “will continue to offer their love and support to the whole family through this difficult time.”
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also wished Catherine well by saying, “We wish health and healing for Kate and the family, and hope they can do so privately and in peace.”
Actress Blake Lively also asked for forgiveness for previously making fun of Catherine’s photoshop scandal with an ad for her Betty Buzz and Betty Booze products.
She wrote on her IG Stories on Friday,
“I’m sure no one cares today but I feel like I have to acknowledge this,”
“I made a silly post around the ‘photoshop fails’ frenzy, and oh man, that post has me mortified today,” she added before concluding, “I’m sorry. Sending love and well wishes to all, always.”
