Shawn Marie and Dennis Wilson

Shawn Marie was one of the wives and later the ex-wife of the sex-addict drummer of The Beach Boys, Dennis Wilson. She was the illegitimate daughter of his bandmate, Mike Love.

Shawn Marie and Dennis Wilson-the affair, marriage

Dennis was the wild type. He was a womanizer and into drugs and alcohol. He was residing in Venice when he started the affair with his illegitimate second cousin, Shawn Marie Love. Shawn was only 16 at that time. She recalled showing up at her house of Dennis with a mutual friend.

On learning that she is Mike Love’s daughter, Dennis starts to talk to her like a big brother. But soon things changed and they were staying together.

But by end of 1981, the relationship was strained. Shawn had said:

“He was acting like a real punk. He was drunk and high. It was embarrassing to me. One of my girlfriends told me he was trying to take another girlfriend to bed.”

There were frequent fights including physical ones between the two. She recalled:

“I ran up to him in the alley, and I just slugged him in the face. I came up to him like, ‘I am going to kill you.’ We got into a full-on fight. He didn’t actually punch me, but he had me down. He dragged me by my hair.”

The couple had a son named Gage Dennis born in 1982. And despite all their domestic drama, the two wed in July 1983.

The divorce of the couple

But by the fall of the same year, everything was shattered. They were living at a house at 6120 Trancas Canyon Road in Malibu. This house was in shambles with doors and windows broken by the two in anger and frustration.

But how long would these fights go on? Not finding a respite, the couple split. Shawn told Rolling Stone:

“I left partially because of me and Dennis not getting along because of personal things — jealousies and stuff,”

Afterward, Shawn rented a room in the Santa Monica Bay Inn for $ 150 a week. They started the divorce proceedings.

Dennis was becoming a pain for the band. Therefore, he was banned from their concerts and tours. He was told to go through a detox program. Dennis was left homeless and with no car and very little money. He became a nomad living with friends. At the end of November 1983, he started therapy at a country club-style therapy center in Arizona. But he did not complete it.

The death of the couple

Later after a month on 23 December 1983, Dennis started treatment at St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica. But again I drank a lot of alcohol and got into an argument with a male friend of Shawn’s.

That night he was admitted to Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital. But three days later, he died due to drowning after heavy drinking.

And Shawn who was born on 30 December 1964 to Mike Love and Shannon Harris died in September 2003 due to liver cancer.
