Sheree Zampino and Will Smith: their relationship timeline

American reality TV star and entrepreneur, Sheree Zampino features in Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. She is a producer and is the first wife of American actor and rapper, Will Smith. But the couple separated three years after their marriage.

Sheree and Will dated in the 1990s. The wo had met on the sets of A Different World. They exchanged wedding vows in 1992. Their son, Trey was born in 1993. However, when Trey was just two years of age, the couple called it quits in 1995.

On 2020 Father’s day, Will had said:

“I’ve been hurt a lot in my adult life, but I don’t think anything touches the failure of getting divorced from my 2-year-old son’s mother,”

Sheree felt that Will calling their marriage a failure was wrong. She commented:

“That’s a heavy word because, if you remember, Will had said that this was his greatest failure.”
“I had an issue with that because I didn’t understand how we could do what we do as a blended family, and do it as well as we do, and as loving as we do, and have an amazing son, and it’s looked at as a failure.”

Jada-Pinkett Smith urged Will to make his first marriage work

Will was introduced to Jada-Pinkett through a third party and was supposed to date and wed her. But instead he met Sheree before Jada and ended up marrying her instead. But the marriage did not work and he started dating Jada after that.

Even though Jada had strong feelings for Will, she wanted him to try to salvage his first marriage to Sheree. In her memoir Worthy, Jada has written about it:

“A few months after I’d really fallen for Will, he had called to announce that Sheree wanted to put the divorce aside and try to reconcile. My heart crashed.”

Jada recalled:

“Hot tears spilled from my eyes, but my voice on the phone held steady,”
“It occurred to me that this wasn’t about me or even us. This was really about Will and Sheree’s two-year-old son, Trey.”

She continued:

“In my mind, I was letting go of the best thing that had happened to me in a long time,”
“But I knew, without a doubt, it was for the better. Two terrible weeks passed, at which point Sheree and Will both decided to proceed with their divorce.”

Sheree and Jada shared an amicable relationship and co-parented Trey. Jada reveals in her memoir:

“Once Will and I got married, I kept my pledge that if I was going to be the loving bonus mom to Trey that he deserved, it was time to get past any resentments and misunderstandings that existed between Sheree and me,”
“I could not proclaim to love Trey without embracing his mother.”

Will and Jada: the relationship

Jada knew Will before his divorce to Sheree. But they started dating only after Sheree and Will divorced. Jada had met Will on the sets of his TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They wed on 31 December 1997 with 100 guests as attendees. The venue was The Cloisters near Baltimore, Maryland.
At that time, Jada was three months pregnant with Jaden. He was born in 1998. Their daughter, Willow arrived in 2000.

Jada had revealed later that she did not want to marry. But her mother pressurized her after she got pregnant at a young age. Will had disclosed in 2021 that Jada had never believed in a conventional marriage and that both had relationships outside their wedlock.

In June 2020, rapper August Alsina had revealed that in 2016, he had an affair with Jada. He was 23 at that time while Jada was 44. Later, Jada accepted that she did entangle with August but that was not with Will’s permission. It was after she and Will had amicably separated.

In October 2023, Jada announced that she and Will have separated since 2016 but she had no intentions to divorce him legally. They are on amicable terms.
