Who is Stampy?

Joseph Mark Garrett also known as Stamylonghead or Stampy, is an English YouTuber, gamer, filmmaker, and author. Stampy is known for his video game commentaries including Minecraft, and for playing the character of Stampy cat.

He is well-known for his incorporation of storytelling, child-friendly demeanor, and education into the Let’s Play format. Garrett has been called “The Mister Rogers of Minecraft” by Entertainment Weekly. He was one of the most-watched channels in the world, in 2014.

Stampy: Age, Parents, Siblings

Stampy was born on 13th December 1990, in Portsmouth, Hampshire, England. His mother’s name is Katherine, and his father’s name is unknown. However, he nicknamed himself “Stampy Dad“. StampyDad created the famous “Mr. Stampy Cat” logo. He has also created illustrations that will feature in the upcoming novel series. He has a sister named “Netty“, who also runs her own YouTube channel NettyPlays.

Stampy studied television and video production at university and initially aimed to be a game journalist. Garrett made his first YouTube channel “Stampylongnose“, on 3rd August 2006. He got the name from an animated character that he made “Stampylongnose“. He uploaded silly, real-life videos with his friends. Garrett spent hours making stop-motion films and animations. Garrett did video production courses in both college and university. Then the channel became home to work on projects that he helped create and acted in.

Stampy watched video gameplay on YouTube, which had just started to become popular. Starting with Call of Duty, he recorded gameplay commentaries, then moved to Holo. He soon realized he was bored listening and was nervous talking to himself. This changed when he was approached by a company(GameThirst) to create a review of a new game. They were pleased with the outcome and hired him to make more videos on their behalf.

In January 2013, Garrett met David Spencer (playing the character “iBallisticSquid” in Minecraft). They planned to do only a couple of videos together but became close friends both in and out of videos. They became a popular duo and formed their joint channel, ‘The Magic Animal Club‘.

At the end of 2014, Garrett was the most-viewed Minecraft YouTuber, and one of the most-watched YouTube channels in the world.

In September 2015, Garrett made a deal with a publisher(Egmont) of children’s books and magazines in the UK, to publish two books under the Stampy brand. The first book “Stampy’s Lovely Book“, was released on 22nd October 2015. The second book “Stick with Stampy!“, was released on 18th July 2016. In August 2018, Garrett announced that he is working on his novel series dedicated to the novel series’ development, Book Diary, which soon premiered after.

Garrett has received nominations for The Game Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, Streamy Awards, and Kids’ Choice Awards. He also set his Guinness World Record on 3rd April 2018, for the “Fastest time to make and display 10 cakes in Minecraft (PC edition)”, he succeeded with a time of 3 minutes and 51 seconds. He also holds another world record for “Most viewed Terraria video” with 9,593,008 views as of 24th April.
