The name of his parent is Don Jarvis (father) and Mary Jones (mother), who was a hairdresser. Jones was raised by a single mother as his dad left them when he was just two years old.

His mother later remarried Ron Dambagella. Talking about his education, he went to Wirral Grammar School for Boys. He then attended St. Anselm’s College.

• Steve Jones began his music career under the band The Strand, which was later changed to The Swankers. The band was formed by Paul Cook and Wally Nightingale during the 1970s.
• However, the band disbanded when Nightingale left in 1975. Jones then formed the band named Sex Pistols alongside Paul Cook, Glen Matlock, and John Lydon.
• The following year, he was filmed as an extra in the movie The Squeeze, released in 1977.
• In 1978, the Sex Pistols broke up and Jones and drummer Coo co-founded the Professionals. The duo released four singles and a self-titled LP, I Didn’t See It Coming (1981).
• Jones performed on Johnny Thunder’s solo album So Alone alongside Cook. Similarly, he played with various musicians including Thin Lizzy, Billy Idol, Joan Jett, Bob Dylan, and more.
• In the 1980s and early 1990s, Jones began his solo career and released his first album, Mercy. His second album, Fire and Gasoline was released in 1989.
• Furthermore, he is a member of Chequered Past and Neurotic Outsiders. He has appeared in several films and tv series such as Punk: Attitude (2005), Played (2006), The Dog Problem (2006), Portlandia (2012), A.P. Bio (2018), and more.

Steve Jones began hosting a daily radio program, Jonesy’s Jukebox, on Indie 103.1 FM in February 2004. He performed stream-of-consciousness songs about the current topic of discussion in the studio.

He also guests appeared on BBC Radio’s 6Music with five Sunday shows, including A Month of Sundays with Steve Jones in November 2009.
