Suzanne Somers wore Timberland boots to her grave
Suzanne Somers had a special relationship with Timberland boots.
The late actress’s husband Alan Hamel revealed that the Three’s Company star was laid to rest in a pair of unconventional shoes.
The 87-year-old told People,
“Suzanne never really had boots designed for hiking on the rocks, so I ordered the Timberland boots,”
“[I] made my gift personal by drawing on them in a few words that represented our life to some degree and made them very personal to Suzanne,”
The TV star died on October 15 after fighting breast cancer for a long time. The TV host revealed that his better half had “every manolo blahnik ever made,” but it would “have been predictable but not very personal” to have Suzanne “wearing [manolo blahniks] for her final trip.”
Alan added,
“Every time she put on the Timberlands, she said, ‘I am wearing you, and my boots will keep me safe.’”
The Canadian star also told the outlet that he and his late wife had an early morning routine that required Somers to have her signature boots.
For over fifty years of their lives, the two lived beside the mountains in both Malibu and Plam Springs.
How did Suzzane’s family and friends celebrate her legacy?
According to Hamel, their routine “always included hiking to the top of one of the mountains, where there was a creek and a large flat rock in the middle of the creek.”
He added,
“By the time we got there, which was about a two-hour hike, the rock had been warmed by the morning sun,”
“We would have our lunch on the rock and then take a one-hour nap on the rock and then hike back down and go to work.”
While the actress took her last breath, her husband, son Bruce, and other family members were by her side.
Somers died just a day before she turned 77. Many of her family members came together to celebrate the big day.
Hamel revealed how the family made the painful yet beautiful day special for his late wife.
He recalled,
“We actually toasted last night,”
“We had, I think, 12 of us here, and all toasted Suzanne. I’m positive we’ll do something today. I don’t know what it will be, but it will involve a lot of cake, because Suzanne was crazy for cake.”
Suzanne’s memorial took place on November 30 when the actress’s family and close friends celebrated her amazing life and Hollywood career.
A second memorial will take place in her hometown of San Bruno, California, this week.
