Mohammed Dewji and his kidnap
Mohammed Dewji is reported to have been kidnapped by some unknown entities when he entered the gym of a hotel in the Tanzanian capital of Dar es Salaam. This happened and it is reported by the police officials that the kidnappers were equipped with guns.
The statements by the authorities on Mohammed Dewji’s disappearance
Regional governor Paul Makonda revealed to the gathered journalists:
“Initial information indicates he was kidnapped by whites travelling in two vehicles,”
He added that such incidents of kidnapping were not common in Tanzania. Dar es Salaam police chief Lazaro Mambosasa also stated that there was a hand of foreigners in the crime.
At the held press conference after the kidnapping incident, Lazaro informed the journalists that the gunmen had fired shots in the air before huddling Mohammed Dewji into their car which took him to some unknown destination.
The police chief disclosed that some arrests in this connection have been made and they are on the lookout for the main suspects and also trying to find Mohammed Dewji and the location where he had been concealed.
They want to free him before anything untoward happens and without any casualties as far as possible. There have been no ransom calls received yet and the motive for the kidnap has not been ascertained yet.
The arrested criminals may be able to shed more light on the whereabouts of Mohammed Dewji and the exact reason for the abduction. It may take a few days for the mystery to be solved. A business rivalry cannot be ruled out.

Mohammed Dewji is a Tanzanian who was born in the same country and studied at the prestigious Georgetown University situated in the United States.
He has an Indian ethnicity and his parents are Zubeda Dewji and Gulamabbas Dewji. He is 47 now and heads the MeTL Group which has investments in agriculture, insurance, transport, logistics, and also the food industry.
Mohammed Dewji has also worked as a member of the Parliament from 2005 to 2015. He appeared on the cover of Forbes magazine in 2013 and was the first Tanzanian to have made it to this prestigious glossy page and magazine.
In the year 2015, Mohammed Dewji was named by Forbes as the Africa Person of the Year. He holds the maximum percentage of shares of Tanzania’s Simba FC Football Club.
Forbes has estimated his net worth and stated it to be $ 1.5 billion. The position is 17th on the list of Africa’s billionaires but he is the youngest to have acquired that title.
