Tracee Ellis Ross and her current relationship status

Tracee Ellis Ross, the famous American actress has done lead roles in the TV series, Girlfriends and Black-ish. The latter ended in 2022. There is a lot of information about her professional life. However, only limited information is available about her personal life.

Tracee prefers that people focus on her work. She keeps her private life under cover and away from the limelight. After her first Golden Globe award in 2017, she told ABC News’ Celeb 101:

Starting from January 2020, rumors were floating that Tracee was in a romantic relationship with the creator of her show, Black-ish, Kenya Barris. Kenya and his wife of twenty years, Dr. Rania “Rainbow” Barris, had publicly stated in 2019 that they were going to divorce. Various news outlets carried articles about the love that was blossoming between Tracee and Kenya after the latter’s divorce.

In September 2020, Kenya reconciled with his wife. After the show ended in May 2022, the working relationship between Tracee and Kenya ended. And in June 2020, Kenya again filed for legal separation from Rania. He demanded custody of their minor kids and was ready to give spousal support to Rania. There was no further news about the relationship between Tracee and Kenya.

Tracee’s previous relationship

Tracee was dating Abou “Bu” Thiam in the past. He is singer Akon’s older brother. Abou is also a music manager. There was no news when the couple was in a relationship. They kept it so secretive that no news leaked about it. But it was only after the two broke up that the news of their split went public.

Abou was featured in the radio show The Breakfast Club. In this, he confirmed that the two have split. But he added that the breakup is amicable and they continue to be friends. But it is not clear when they started dating and when they split.

Abou did not reveal it. In his words:

“Me and Tracee are going to be lovers forever,”
“I really do believe that. Me and her have this genuine, unconditional relationship. Anybody that comes in my life, they have to know that and vice versa with her.”

Abou also disclosed that he could not put his full efforts into the relationship and hence it failed. He went on to say:

“I believe that being with somebody is … like a real job. It’s a real responsibility. She’s in a place in her career where if I can’t give her all of me, I don’t want to waste her time or put her in that space,”
“Why not give her the opportunity to find someone else that can?”

Abou also said that Tracee was and is special to him. He told the host Charlamagne:

“Out of all the females that I’ve dated, and not to discredit all the other girls, because I’ve been with some good females in my life, she has to be one of the most unconditional, loving, spirited people,”

The music manager also joked that he tells his current girlfriend that he would leave her and start romancing Tracee again.

Tracee was featured in the October 2020 cover story for Shape magazine. She said that she was blissfully single. But she has not ruled out any relationship in the future. Tracee explained:

“That doesn’t mean I am not open to and don’t want a relationship,”
“But, in my wonderful and robust experience of being single, I have learned to have a productive relationship with loneliness and an intensely juicy relationship with my joyful solitude — I really enjoy my company.”
