Singer Aly Michalka is expanding her family with her husband Stephen Ringer.

The iZombie star exclusively confirmed to PEOPLE, on Wednesday, January 31, that she is pregnant with Stephen’s first child.

She told the outlet,

“It’s been a really easy pregnancy, which I feel really lucky and blessed to have experienced,”

Aly revealed that she found out about her pregnancy in early September, a day before a performance with her sister at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater. She recalled,

“In another world I could have waited to take a test another day, but for whatever reason I was like, ‘I’m past a week being late, and I should just take the test,’ And then it was just like, ‘Oh my gosh. We play this huge show tonight, and now I’m holding in this huge secret.'”

“I didn’t want it to take away from the special meaning of that night, and we already had so much on our minds that we were juggling,”

The “Potential Breakup Song” artist then revealed she immediately told her husband about the pregnancy.

However, she held off on telling her sister AJ Michalka until after the concert because she “didn’t want it to take away from the special meaning of that night.”

“I was like, ‘There was a special guest that was at the Greek that you didn’t know was there,’ and she was like, ‘Who?’ I was like, ‘There’s a baby,’ and I touched my stomach, and then she was like, ‘What?!’ She was just really excited and overjoyed. From there, we told the rest of the family.”

What’s the gender of the unborn child?

Aly shared that she and Stephen have not yet known about the gender of their child. She expressed,

“We’re waiting to find out the gender cuz I’ve always loved a good surprise,”

She also mentioned how busy she is these days taking care of the unborn child and herself.

But in the meantime we’ve been busy getting the nursery ready, meeting with my birth team, eating more protein than usual, going to Pilates, getting good sleep, and drinking lots of water.”

Michalka is managing to write a song despite her pregnancy, which she hopes will make “its way into the baby’s soul.” In conclusion, she expressed her gratitude to the “amazing women I’ve leaned on these past 6 months (you know who you are).”

The couple waited until Aly ended her With Love From Aly & AJ 2023 tour before beginning family planning.

The Easy A actress said to PEOPLE that she was still OK with the hastened scheduling. She said,

“It was nice that it ended up happening quickly, But also I think that took us by surprise in a way where we were like, ‘Oh, we thought that maybe this would take us eight, nine months to get pregnant or a year,’ and it didn’t.”
