Andrei Shleifer is an American economist who is a professor of economics at Harvard University.

For his seminal works in three fields corporate finance, the economics of financial markets, and the economics of transition, Andrei earned the biennial John Bates Clark Medal in 1999.

Vishny in Chicago. “Industrialization and the Big Push”, one of their creations worked as a major breakthrough to end a “long slump in development theory”.

It was accredited by Paul Krugman. He and his coauthors (Rafael La Porta, Robert W. Vishny, Simeon Djankov, and Florencio Lopez de Silanes) have made significant contributions to corporate governance.

He began his other research focussing on the legal origins theory. Shleifer was even regarded as a “superb economist who worked in the old Chicago tradition of building simple models, focussing on basic economic mechanisms and who examine the evidence deeply……..the way of his research is the part of markets, governments, and institutions”.

Shleifer and his fellow academics and behavioral finance specialists introduced an LSV Asset Management. About 50 billion equity portfolios were controlled by it. According to the firm’s website, he sold his ownership stake.

In 1996, the US government sealed Harvard, Shleifer, Shleifer’s wife Nancy Zimmerman, Shleifer’s assistant Jonathan Hay, and Hay’s wife Elizabeth Hebert, because these misuse their positions and bought Russian stocks and GKOs during the time they were working on the country’s privatization, which potentially violated Harvard’s contract with USAID.

In 2001, all charges against Zimmerman and Hebert were dismissed.

In August 2005, Harvard, Shleifer, and the Department of Justice reached a tentative settlement under which the university paid $26.5 million for the settlement of a five-year-old lawsuit.
