Ethan Slater is taking his relationship with Ariana Grande to the next level.

The SpongeBob Musical: Live on Stage! actor filed for divorce from his wife Lilly Jay in New York on Wednesday, as per legal documents obtained by Page Six.

However, they could not tell what was the reason for the split. TMZ was the first to announce that Slater was divorcing his wife.

The expected news comes nearly a week after his relationship with his Wicked co-star Ariana Grande made headlines for all the wrong reasons.

Last week, multiple outlets confirmed that the actors have been dating for many months after initially meeting on the set of their forthcoming Jon M. Chu-directed film. Many suspect that their romance began while shooting for the movie in London.

After news of their affair was exposed, a photo showing the film’s cast celebrating Michelle Yeoh‘s Oscar win in March showed Ethan wrapping his arm around the 30-year-old songstress.

Just days before their romance surfaced, Ariana revealed that she was divorcing her husband Dalton Gomez after just two years of marriage.

Other sources revealed that Slater’s wife was blindsided by her husband’s relationship with Grande.
