Who is Ashleigh Hale and what is her relationship with Meghan Markle?

Ashleigh Hale is Thomas Markle‘s granddaughter and the daughter of Meghan Markle‘s half-sister Samantha.

The world got to know about Ashleigh when she appeared in Meghan and Harry’s Netflix docuseries in 2022. In the series, she revealed that she was not released by her mother.

She said,

“My biological mother’s Samantha Markle. And it was agreed by everyone, by myself and my brother, to be raised by our grandparents. So they got custody of us when I was probably around two years old. And ultimately, they did adopt us. So I was raised by my paternal grandparents—for me, they were my parents.”

Ashleigh and Meghan reconnected in 2007. The two started having a conversation through email and they started traveling together.

Talking about the relationship she shares with the former TV actress, she admitted in the docuseries,

“She takes on a lot of roles for me. There’s a sister element, there’s something maternal,”
“She’s a best friend. She’s kind of all the things.”

Meghan said, “She was like a little sister.”

Did Ashleigh attend Meghan and Harry’s wedding?

Meghan revealed that Kensington Palace had a problem with whether or not to invite Ashleigh to the wedding. The Duchess of Sussex said,

“How do we explain that this half-sister isn’t invited to the wedding, but that the half-sister’s daughter is?”
”With Ashleigh the guidance at the time was to not have her come to our wedding.”

Meghan and Harry called their niece to tell her about the situation.

Ashley recalled,

“I said I was hurt on some level, but I understood where it was coming from. To know that it was because of my biological mother that this relationship that’s so important to me was impacted in that way… To feel like because of her, it was taken away, has been hard.”

Through the documentary, we know that Ashleigh is an immigration lawyer. Her LinkedIn profile shows she is an associate at Fragomen in San Francisco.

She has worked previously at Summer Immigration Law and Capital One.

She earned her graduate degree from Charleston School of Law with her J.D. in 2010, and from the George Washington University Law School with a Master of Laws (LL.M) in 2011.

As for her previous education, she attended Hollins University for undergrad from 2003 to 2007, and Washington Academy for high school.
