Kenya singer Austin Chimano came out as gay
He is not going to hide his sexuality anymore as LGBTQ law is not passed in Kenya
He is a member of the band Sauti Sol.

Austin Chimano is a member of the LGBTQ community! He is one of the members of one of Kenya’s biggest male bands, Sauti Sol. He has come out as gay and is not hiding his sexuality anymore.

While giving an interview to local publication The Standard, Chimano confirmed his sexuality.

It is a crime in Kenya to be gay and is punished with up to 14 years in prison. However, slowly the attitude towards LGBTQ+ people is being more open.

The challenge to overturn the law was rejected by the Kenya High Court in 2019. Also, his new solo single Friday Feeling is about underground ballroom culture within the queer community.

Austin said,

“It is the first time I am expressing myself in a song. You really get to know who Chimano is and that is a heavy crown to carry. It is just a representation of the underground ballroom culture within the queer community… which I am part of,”

Willis Austin Chimano was born on 9th July 1987 in Kenya and is 34 years old at present. Chimano attended the Upper Hill High School and started the afro-pop band, Sauti Sol, with his high school friends Bien-Aime Baraza, Savara Mudigi, and Polycarp Otieno in 2005 as a cappella group.
