His mum was a domestic worker and likely talking about his father, he worked in construction.

Their names are not known although. He was raised in an American family of Afro-American descent. 

Bill Cobbs is the second cousin of James Baskett who is also an American actor.

Cobbs worked as a radar technician in the early days. He worked in the United States Air Force for almost eight years.

Moreover, Bill Cobbs also served in office products at IBM. He has also worked selling cars in Cleveland. At the age of 35 or 36, he moved to New York to pursue his acting career.

After moving to New York also he supported himself by driving a cab, repairing office equipment, selling toys, and performing odd jobs in his initial days.

Acting Career

Cobb started to perform at the African American Performing Arts Center and began his acting career.

Similarly, he also performed in Karamu House Theatre in Cleveland Ohio.

And his first professional acting was playing in Ride a Black Horse at the Negro Ensemble Company.

After that, Bill Cobbs appeared in small theater productions, street theater, regional theater, and at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre.

His first screen debut was was in 1976’s New York public television educational series Vegetable Soup.

Likewise his debut movie The Taking of Pelham One Two Three in 1974.  And now he has established success in the entertainment industry.

Talking about his notable work, are The Hitter (1979) and Water in The Brother from Another Planet (1984), playing Lewis Coleman on I’ll Fly Away (1991–1993) likely Jack on The Michael Richards Show (2000), and many others.

The actor also has various guest roles on Walker, Texas Ranger, and The Sopranos.

Just in 2020, Cobbs has a guest appearance portraying an unnamed elderly S.H.I.E.L.D. agent in the two-part series finale of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
