Bobby Valentine- Early Life, Education

Bobby Valentine was born as Robert John Valentine on 13th May 1950 in Stamford, Connecticut. He is the son of Joseph Valentine and Grace Valentine. Joseph was a carpenter who supported the family by taking various jobs in Stamford.

He had an elder Joe with whom he lived in a four-room house on Melrose Place in Stamford. Similarly, Valentine attended Rippowam High School in Stamford, Connecticut.

He attended the University of Southern California even though he was recruited by the University of Nebraska and the University of Notre Dame. Likewise, he also educated from Arizona State University.

Bobby Valentine- Professional career

When he was 18 years old, he made his professional playing debut with the Ogden Dodgers of the Rookie Pioneer League. He won the league’s MVP Award. Bobby was one of the three players in the league to appear in every game.

In the year 1971, he made the Dodgers out of Spring Training and batted .249 with one home run and 25 RBIs in 101 games. On 25th April 1971, he hit his first career MLB hit.

He started with California Angeles in the 1973 season. He was named the Caribbean Series MVP playing shortstop for the series championship. On 19th September 1975, he homered off Mike Caldwell in his first game as a Padre.

Managing career

Bobby served as a member of the Mets coaching staff and was tapped by the Texas Rangers to take over managing duties from Doug Rader. In the year 1989, he worked as an on-the-field analyst for NBC’s 1989 ALCS coverage alongside Bob Costas and Tony Kubek.

Similarly, in the year 2004, he began his second stint as a manager of the Chiba Lotte Marines. Also, he issued a challenge to the World Series champion Chicago White Sox on the behalf of the Chiba Lotte Marines.

Other works

Valentine is the owner of Bobby V’s Restaurant & Sports Bar. In the year 2010, he started the production company Makuhari Media with another partner.

In 2016, he was considered by Donald Trump’s presidential transition team for appointment as the United States Ambassador to Japan.
