Following his college, he started his professional career at Maryland selected by Cincinnati Bengals. He was picked in the 2nd round of the 1984 NFL Draft with the 38th overall pick.

He got his debut in NFL against Houston Oilers. He led the team to win 13-3 over Houston. Three years later, he led the team to 2nd appearance n Super Bowl, however losing to the San Francisco 49ers. In his tenure at Bengals, he won the NFL MVP award in 1988 and named Pro Bowl.

In 1993, he was traded to New York Jets for 3rd round pick. In the 1995 season, he was injured giving him a severe concussion. He was ruled out of the game until November 19.

Years later, he signed as a free agent with Arizona Cardinals in 1996. Following year, he contemplated retirement but returned to Bengals playing one more season. Esiason playing at quarterback, Cincinnati Bengals won four of the club’s five games. He scored 30 points four times.

While still playing, Esiason did a color analyst on USA Network’s 2yr broadcast. He also appeared in TV Shows and movies including Blue Bloods, Game Plan, Spin City, and Miss America.

He also worked for ABC as a color commentator. As of recent, Esiason hosted Super Bowls Greatest Commercials four years in a row, 2012-2015.
