The last few years might have been difficult for American journalist, Brooke Baldwin. She left her job with CNN in 2021. And two years later, in February 2023, she filed for divorce from her husband of five years, James Fletcher. What is she doing now and where is she?

American journalist, Brooke Baldwin has been serving CNN in various capacities since 2008. She started work as a freelancer. Later, when she got a permanent job with them, she recalled:

“I scribbled my name on a Post-It and stuck it outside a temporary office determined to fulfill my dream of becoming a full-time correspondent at CNN.”

She did love her job. Talking about it, she said:

“For a decade, I’ve never taken for granted the enormous responsibility and privilege I’ve had to work with some of the most talented producers and photojournalists out there as we covered our era’s most urgent and important stories.”

But on 16 February 2021, she revealed in one of the shows that she is quitting the job in mid-April 2021. Later, on a podcast, she revealed that her work-place was male-dominated. They had the lead posts and she was unable to fulfill her desire to have stories that were about women and their issues. Brooke left the channel on 16 April 2021 and Alisyn Camerota and Victor Blackwell took her place.

Brooke and her recent divorce

Brooke met James Fletcher in 2015 during a holiday party. James is a writer and producer and also was a former anchor at KRON4 News. Brooke invited him for dinner and later to New Orleans. They had a long vacation in France and Brooke felt that James was the right man for him.

They had a surprise engagement in July 2017 while on a vacation to Kauai, Hawaii. It happened to be Brooke’s 38th birthday too.

Later, in 2018, they wed at the Barn at Liberty Farms in Ghent in New York. But the marriage did not last long and in February 2023, she put in her divorce papers at the Manhattan Supreme Court. It was not a bitter divorce and on her social media announcement, Brooke said that the time together they had was the “most precious, defining, and awakening years of her life”.

What is Brooke doing now?

After her decision to leave CNN, she appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show on 12 March 12, 2021. She did say that she does not know what she would do in future:

“It’s been a long time. It’s been a privilege to have this job,”
“It’s kind of like I’m about to do a backflip off the high dive, I’m just hoping there’s water in the pool. Wish me luck.”

She added:

“It was obviously a huge, huge decision,”
“I put a lot of thought into it, but here’s what I didn’t put a lot of thought into: what I’m actually going to do next.”
“I actually honestly don’t know what I’m going to do,”
“Wish me luck on my next chapter.”

She has not revealed what she is doing now. But Brooke is active in social media. Recently, she posted an Instagram video in which she accused Fox News network executives of trying to push ratings above the truth.
