After finishing high school, Karen Spencer enrolled herself at a university in Toronto where she studied for a short time. It was then she realized that college was not what she wanted to do and then tried her luck in modeling.
She quickly became a well-paid model who posed for clothing catalogs. Eventually, she started disliking the job and chose a completely different career.
She found herself in the hospitality business and landed a front desk position at Toronto’s famous Four Seasons. It was there where she met her first husband in 1994.

Before Charles Spencer, Karen was married to producer Mark Gordon. The duo tied the knot in 1997.
Gordon would later be the one to produce award-winning films Saving Private Ryan and The Patriot.

After her divorce, Karen devoted a lot of her time to Whole Child International. In 2010, she met Charles Spencer on a blind date set up by the aristocrat’s friend. He had recently ended his engagement with Lady Bianca Eliot.

“It took a minute. I mean, obviously, he’s very handsome, interesting, and charming, but I was a jaded 38-year-old by the time I met him.”
