Charlie Hardwick of Emmerdale fame has been diagnosed with Celiac disease!

Charlie Hardwick and her health status

Charlie Hardwick gave an exclusive interview to Express.co.uk where she disclosed about her diagnosis of Celiac disease.

She said:

“That was a big shock. I got very poorly in the summer and they didn’t know what was wrong with me and neither did I. I was diagnosed with Celiac disease.”

Source: Daily Express (Charlie)Charlie also said that her diagnosis was made 4 months back. Before the diagnosis, Charlie used to feel that she is allergic to bread since she realized that her symptoms came up when she ate bread.

She stated:

“I thought it was just an allergy to bread and bizarrely it is an auto-immune disease.”

She continued:

“I had absolutely no idea and I’ve been very unsympathetic in the past and I’ve learned my lesson now. Gluten to a celiac is deadly poison.” 

Charlie Hardwick is improving

Charlie revealed that she has sought treatment for the condition and her condition is improving with it. She explained:

“I’m back on track and I’m now a big ambassador for the Celiac Society.”

Charlie has started working for the patients suffering from a condition similar to hers and she is also raising the awareness about the disease. She wants people to know that they are not alone with the disease and is doing her bit for the noble cause.

Charlie has played the character of Val Pollard on the show Emmerdale which airs on ITV. In the year 2015, Charlie’s character was killed and hence she was no more with the show.

It was shown as a brutal death in a hall of mirrors when a large piece of glass pierces her and she does not survive the accident. She had thought her alter ego would return on the show but was heartbroken to learn that this was not so.

Charlie was in love with her character on the show and was extremely upset with knowing that she will never be again able to go back to the Dales.

She said:

“I was heartbroken. Not about returning but about them killing Val because I loved her. I really loved Val, even her clothes, like dry cleaning. I’m not a woman who does dry cleaning. I envied her fine knits. I was very sad.” 

Charlie is now working with the theater and her recent acting role was with Clear White Light which had the world premiere at the Live Theater in Newcastle. The play is set in a psychiatric hospital and Charlie plays the role of Maddie who is a patient at this hospital.

Charlie added that the play has a lot of laughter in it and also carries a message which will move people.
