The hit sitcom, Fresh Off The Boat was somehow inspired by the life of chef and food personality Eddie Huang and his 2013 autobiography.

It also became the first-ever network TV sitcom in U.S. history featuring a family of Asian Americans as lead characters in over 20 years.

The show went into production in 2014 that shows a Taiwanese-American family’s life in Florida in the 1990s. After receiving a positive critical response, the show went on to premiere on ABC the next February.

Wu explained that the producer started showing his true colors in the first season and his behaviors included  ‘demanding that she run all her business matters past him and telling her what to wear.’

Wu felt it necessary to speak up against the harassment after the show’s success

Explaining her mindset to the Times, Wu said:

”Fresh Off the Boat was my first-ever TV show,”

”I was thrown into this world. I don’t have parents in the industry. And because I was 30, people thought I knew what I was doing. It made me paranoid and embarrassed.”

The Crazy Rich Asians actress noted that the producer’s behaviors reached heights when they attended a sporting event and he placed his hand on her thigh and ultimately grazed her crotch.

The actress was disturbed and immediately asked him to stop. After that, they moved on with that incident.

During her conversation, she explained that she chose not to speak against the producer’s toxic behaviors at that time because she thought it could have consequences.

Later, when the show became more successful, she started feeling more powerful and comfortable about her status.

The 40-year-old added:

‘I kept my mouth shut for a really long time about a lot of sexual harassment and intimidation that I received the first two seasons of the show,’

‘Because, after the first two seasons, once it was a success, once I was no longer scared of losing my job, that’s when I was able to start saying “no” to the harassment, “no” to the intimidation, from this particular producer.’
