Early Career

Conway played football for Hawthorne High School and won All-America honors as a senior quarterback. He joined the University of Southern California as a Quarterback but later converted to Wide Receiver in 1991. He spent three stellar years as a college football player. In his first year, he had 26 kick returns for 555 yards and 12 punt returns for 161 yards in addition to one touchdown. He improved the following season with  21 catches for 240 yards and 1 touchdown and 18 carries for 29 yards with one touchdown. In 1992, he became even better with 49 catches for 764 yards and 5 TD. Six carries for 37 yards and 1 touchdown. Twenty-seven kick returns for 675 yards and one touchdown. Thirty-one punt returns for 346 yards and one touchdown.

NFL

In the 1993 NFL Draft, the Chicago Bears chose him in the first round. In his twelve-year career as an NFL player, he had over 1,000 yards thrice in which he played for the Chicago Bears, the New York Jets, the San Diego Chargers, and the San Francisco 49ers.

During his time as an NFL player, Conway threw for two touchdown passes which is rare for a wide receiver.

He had an important touchdown pass during a game against the Miami Dolphins on November 13, 1994. The wide receiver lined up split off of and parallel to the holder on a field goal formation. Curtis received it, and threw a pass which was tipped up into the air by a defender and caught by teammate and tight end, Keith Jennings who ran into the endzone for a touchdown.

He had 329 catches during his time with the Chicago Bears placing him third in franchise history on their all-time receptions list with 4,498 receiving yards rank fifth on the club’s all-time yardage list. Moreover, he was also the first Chicago Bears wide receiver to record back to back 1000 yard seasons.

After his departure from the Bears, he joined the San Diego Chargers in 2000. He played three seasons with the Chargers before joining the New York Jets for the 2003 season. The following year, he joined the San Francisco 49ers in 2004.

Currently, he is a studio analyst for the Pac-12 Network and a co-host of Total Access on the NFL Network.
