In 2013, she transitioned from being a production technician at KHSB-TV to a traffic reporter.

Since then, she has worked for news stations in Dallas (WFAA) and Las Vegas (KLAS-TV).

In July 2014, she landed a job as an anchor for C BS’s Channel 8 in Las Vegas.

While working there, she also hosted and produced a popular social media segment called, “Trending now’ in addition to a franchised segment, ‘What’s Driving You Crazy?’

In October 2017, Demetria joined WFAA’s Channel 8 morning show, ‘Day Break’ as the Traffic Ensemble Anchor.

Response to Body shaming

In November 2017, Demetria was subject to a viral post by Jan Shedd. She vocally protested her choice of clothing on Facebook.

The Nov. 1 comment read,

“Has anyone seen Channel 8’s new morning traffic reporter? She’s a size 16/18 woman in a size 6 dress, and she looks ridiculous. I understand that when I watch Channel 8 I’m going to get biased reporting and political correctness, but clearly, they have taken complete leave of their senses. I’m not going to watch Channel 8 anymore.”

Her response to the comment was very strong and became viral soon,

“I’m not a 16/18, but even if I was, for you to try to call out my size like that to hurt me or discriminate against me, I’m not for that”.

She also had previously shared a screenshot of an email from a viewer who said her natural hairstyle must be hard to clean and smell bad.

The star rapper, ‘Chance the Rapper’ retweeted a post about her, and Meghan McCain thanked her for “speaking out against body shaming”.
