College Career

In 2004, Dominik Meichtry got committed to the University of California. The following year, he joined the University. At the time, he started swimming for the California Golden Bears representing the college. In the sophomore year, he became 2nd at the National Collegiate Athletic Association competition which became the first milestone in his career.

In the junior year, he became the captain of his college team. Moving forward, in the senior year, he ended being 4th on the NCAAs. Also, he was named as the athlete of the year and named as the top 10 male Athletes of Switzerland.

When he was in college, he also joined the summer camp, The Race Club to enhance his skills as a swimmer.

Professional Career

During the junior year, Dominik Meichtry represented his country to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. In the Olympics, he swam at the 100m, 200m, and 400m freestyle and 4*100 m freestyle relay. In the 200m freestyle, he became the 8th fastest time ever with the time slot of 1:46.95.

Also, he became the first Swiss to beak the 49-second barrier at the 4*100 Freestyle relay. Later, in December 2008, he competed at the 2008 European Short Course Swimming Championship in Rijeka. In the competition, he won his first international event. Also, he won the silver medal in the 200m Freestyle.

In 2009, he joined the training base at Southern California and trained with the swimming coach, David Salo. The year, he attended the 2009 FINA Swimming World Cup in Singapore where he completed the 200m freestyle short course within 1:42.83 which became one of his best.

Also, he competed at the 2009 FINA Swimming World Cup in Berlin and swam at the 400m Freestyle. He completed the course within 3:39.86.

In 2011, he got qualified for the 3rd Olympic Games at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai. In the championship, he set the new national record in the 100m Butterfly with the time slot of 1:47.02.
