The actor was born on February 24, 1947, in East Los Angeles, California, USA. He holds an American nationality and is of a mix of Aztec and Spanish ancestry.

He is the son of Eleanor Huizar and Pedro Olmos. His father was a welder and mail carrier. He has two siblings a sister named Eleanor Olmos and a brother named Peter Olmos.

At the age of seven, his parents get split-up and he was primarily raised by his great-grandparents as his parents worked.

Early in his teen year, he wanted to pursue his career in baseball. So, he joined the Los Angeles Dodgers’ farm system, playing as a catcher. He was the Golden State batting champion too.

At the age of 15, he changed his interest in music and left baseball to join a rock and roll band. However, his father refused his decision and caused a rift with his father.

In 1964, he graduated from Montebello High School. During the time, he joined a band, the Pacific Ocean which was named by him. Also, he was the band’s lead vocalist.

In the following year, the band performed at various clubs around Los Angeles and released their only record, Purgatory which includes such classic tunes as “Tracks of My Tears”, “16 Tons,” and more in 1968.

In the same year, he joined acting classes at East Los Angeles College and California State University.

Film Career

Edward started his acting career in the late 1960s and the early 1970s through theater. He debuts his broadway as a narrator called El Pachuco in the play Zoot Suit.

Then, he subsequently took the role in the post-apocalyptic science fiction film, Virus in 1980. Between 1984 to 1989, he made his career break down by starring in his biggest role up to that as, Martin Castillo in the television series Miami Vice along with Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas.

Similarly, he is cast in the upcoming comedy film, Walking with Herb where he has portrayed the role of Joe. The film is going to release on April 30, 2021.

Edward has often participated in social activities such as during the 1992 Rodney King Riots in Los Angeles, he went there to get communities cleaned up and rebuilt.

In 1997, he co-founded the non-profit organization, Latino Literacy Now along with Kirk Whisler.

The organization has produced Latino Book & Festivals around the US and around 700 thousand people have attended as of now.

At the point, he denied the allegation through his lawyer, who said the woman had stalked James and sought a financial settlement.
