He grew in the Tottenham youth ranks playing at Cheshunt, meeting the likes of Bill Nicholson, Dave Mackay, and Danny Blanchflower.

At West Ham United, he played as a midfielder. Also, he began his career with Tottenham Hotspur, playing for the youth team until he was 15 years old when he moved to West Ham United.

He made his first start of the 1966–67 season, and scored his second goal for the club, on 3 December 1966 in a 3–0 win over West Bromwich Albion.

Harry began his management career as a player-assistant manager of the NASL club Seattle Sounders from 1976 to 1979 under Jimmy Gabriel.

He made 24 appearances, helping the side to second place in the Pacific Conference and Western Division.

Similarly, he took up his first major coaching role as assistant manager to David Webb at AFC Bournemouth.

He was appointed an assistant manager to Billy Bonds at West Ham, another of his former clubs West Ham United.

In October 2008, he became the new manager of Tottenham Hotspur. On 24 November 2012, he had been working at his former club AFC Bournemouth in an advisory role.
