The channel HBO Max has taken away the classic romantic film of 1939 Gone with the Wind from its library. They admitted that the film was a product of its time and a highly reputed project.

But at the same time, the channel stated that it depicted ethnic and racial prejudice which were wrong at that time and are wrong even today. therefore, it cannot allow the film to remain on its US Streaming service and took it down.

This is following the protests that are ongoing in the USA in many of its places in the wake of the gruesome death of the colored man George Floyd at the hands of a white police officer from Florida.

The channel producers also added that the removal is temporary. The movie will be put back in the library at an unspecified date. The company plans to put a discussion of the historical content before it reinstates the movie on its streaming service.

The settings in the film Gone with the Wind were during and after the American Civil War. The movie was a classical one but people have also criticized it for its display of slavery in the USA.

The film was produced based on the novel of Margaret Mitchell. The movie has slave characters who are satisfied with their work.

HBO Max issued a statement in which it said that it would not be right on its part to allow the film to continue on its streaming service without putting a disclaimer and denouncement of the racist depictions it has.

The film would be back in its original creation form. Only there would be an accompanying explanation of the racist depictions shown in it.
