- Singing is one of those skills that many actors learn when they are first coming up in community theater or when they are going to drama school.
These actors are best known for starring in comedies and dramas, not musicals. But when the time has come for them to belt it out whether that be on stage, on film, or in a somewhat pushy interview they were ready.
1)Robert Pattinson
The actor not only can act on camera but he can also sing well. He can well sing and play the guitar. Robert’s music has been featured on the soundtracks for a few of his movies. The first Twilight movie includes two of his songs.
The soundtrack for his 2008 movie How to Be has three. Robert sings in the 2018 western Damsel. And, most recently, he performed a song for the sci-fi thriller High Life with the band Tindersticks.
2)Daniel Radcliffe
He is a multi-talented man, it’s surprising to see him sing, Radcliffe’s dancing is even more impressive. In 2011, he starred in the musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying which was pretty amazing. And it’s no wonder, he told The View that he trained for a year before his debut.
3)Jennifer Lawrence
Because she’s the queen of self-deprecation, Jennifer Lawrence publicly claimed she hates singing in front of people but was convinced to record a song for her “Hunger Games” sequel Mockingjay.
The song debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December 2014. During an interview on The Late Show, Lawrence said that she cried before having to perform the song for the movie, but give it a listen and you’ll see that she pulled it off.
4)Kerry Washington
The actor spoke about her musical past during an interview with Gwyneth Paltrow, and they talked about Washington’s audition for the singing group Paltrow was a member of at their high school.
In this interview with Jordin Sparks, Washington plays down her singing talent and she’s really good at it.
5)Meryl Streep
She has won many fan harts with her acting but Queen Meryl is quite the vocalist. That said, she has put her singing voice to use in a few films, including Mamma Mia!, Into the Woods, and Ricki and the Flash. She also recently sang “The Ladies Who Lunch” from Company in honor of Stephen Sondheim’s 90th birthday while mixing drinks.
6)Michelle Williams
Williams has been singing all her life. Williams played Sally Bowles in the 2014 Broadway revival of Cabaret, and she also sang in the miniseries Fosse/Verdon in which she played dancer Gwen Verdon.
She told W Magazine of Fosse/Verdon.
“It’s like doing a Broadway show, but without working six days a week, eight shows a week.”
7)Hugh Jackman
Seeing him in action movies like Wolverine in the X-Men. Jackman’s musical talents have also earned him two Tony Awards and a Grammy nomination.
Jackman has proven himself to be one of the most versatile actors in the world, nailing roles across several genres including musicals like “Les Misérables” and “The Greatest Showman.”
8)Anne Hathaway
The actor has earned an Oscar for a role in a musical, whose performance in 2012’s “Les Misérables” included a powerhouse rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream.”
Hathaway sang on the soundtrack of her 2004 movie “Ella Enchanted.” She’s even performed with Barbra Streisand, singing with the icon on her 2016 album, “Encore.”
