It was in 2009 that Michelle auditioned for ESPN’s SportsNation and landed the job with co-host Colin Cowherd. After a two-year stint from 2012 to 2014 with NBC, Michelle was back with ESPN.

In 2016, she started hosting NBA Countdown and in April 2018, she was made a host of the morning sports show called Get-Up! Her co-hosts on the program were Jalen Rose and Mike Greenberg.

But ESPN announced in August of the same year that Michelle would be off from Get-Up and would concentrate on covering NBA only. So what was the reason for it?

Sources have revealed that Michelle did not want to host Get-Up! Show in the first place. But the President of ESPN John Skipper wanted her to do it and hence he raised the salary offer to $ 5 million per year and Michelle could not say no.

But the pairing of Mike Greenberg with Michelle Beadle was not fruitful. They are different in many ways. When they were hosting the show, they did not seem to enjoy their time on it.

It appeared that they did not like being on the set together. To watch them host together was not an enjoyable affair for the viewers as well. So the pairing and hence the program was a flop and could not pick up on the ratings.

Michelle also went on record to say that she would not be watching NFL and college football and in the upcoming fall, her show would have been devoted to football reporting. So how was it going to work there?

The whole set-up and pairing for the show hosting were faulty from the word GO and hence it never achieved what it should have. By removing her from Get-Up, ESPN wanted her to concentrate more on NBA coverage and make it a success.

NBA Countdown show and its failure

Since her time on the show NBA Countdown, Michelle’s presence on the show has not helped it boost ratings. She has been largely inactive in trying to push its standards higher.

She uses social media more for her personal use rather than putting it to also her professional advantage. People feel that the show is good only when Michael Wilbon comes on it as a guest analyst and brings with him a lot of energy which gets rubbed onto the show. ESPN would not find it financially feasible to replace Michelle now.

There are suggestions that her role in this show which airs 4 times a week should be curtailed. Those involved with the show suggested other options such as making Cassidy Hubbarth host the show from New York or letting Jorge Sedano host it.

The show ought to be made more high-energy and fun-going with some original stories brought out by coaches and players. NBA Countdown should be made an enjoyable viewing experience if has to get more TRPs.
