Jannik began his football career by playing youth football with Vestia, Frem, Copenhagen, and Brøndby. He played with German club TSG 1899 Hoffenheim as a senior team. In 2015, he moved to Werder Bremen and joined Borussia Mönchengladbach on 11 June 2016 for a reported transfer of €12 million plus bonuses.

On 13 July 2018, Jannik signed a four-year contract with the English club Southampton. He played his debut match for Southampton against Burnley on 12 August 2018. He scored the first goal for Southampton against Manchester United on 31 August 2019.

Later, Southampton transferred the Jannik to Leicester City for Vestergaard on 12 August 2021 and he signed a three-year contract with Leicester City on 13 August 2021. However, his fees have not been disclosed.

Jannik made his international debut by playing against Poland. He scored his first goal for Denmark against Sweden in the European Championship on 17 November 2015.

Likewise, he was selected for  Denmark’s squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia. However, he did not get a chance to get into the field. Similarly, he was also selected for the national team’s bid for the 2020 UEFA Euro in June 2021 where the team managed to make the place in the semi-finals.
