Jenna Bush was the first to propose to her husband Henry Hager!

The Today host Jenna Bush recently spilled the beans on what happened between her and her husband Henry Hager as regards their engagement.
She told that it was she who did the first move and proposed to her then-boyfriend Henry Hager.

Jenna Bush and her marriage proposal

Usually, in the majority of cultures worldwide, it is the male who proposes to his girlfriend first. But in the case of TV host Jenna Bush and her husband Henry, it was different.

Jenna revealed to her co-host Hoda Kotb, 55 that after dating Henry for three months, it was she who proposed to him. She disclosed:

“I asked Henry to marry me,”

Hoda was surprised at this revelation of Jenna, and remarked:

“How did I not know that?”

And Jenna, 38 said truthfully:

“Because he said no. And then he asked me five years later.”

The former first daughter went on to explain:

“After three months of dating—and I might’ve had a Christmas cocktail—we were dancing. I said, ‘This is it, I know it. Let’s just get married, what are we waiting for?’”

At that time, Jenna was just 21.

The proposal from Henry Hager

Henry Hager is the son of former Virginia Republican Party Chairman, John Hager. Though Henry initially said no to engagement with Jenna, he did love her truly and they continued their relationship. It was that he did not feel that the time was ripe yet to take their relationship one step ahead.

Henry then waited for five years to propose to Jenna at the age of 26. And in 2007, he proposed to her. And of course, the eager bride-to-be said yes.

Further, one year later on 10 May 2008, the couple walked down the aisle together. Their wedding was on the Bush Family ranch called Prairie Chapel Ranch which is close to Crawford, Texas.

And it had 200 eminent people on the guest list. And Jenna’s twin sister Barbara Bush married last year at the Bush Family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine.

The couple now has three children. They are Margaret Hager (born 13 April 2013), Poppy Hager (born 13 August 2015), and Henry Hager Jr (born 2 August 2019).

Why the proposal of 2007 is making headlines now?

It all started when Jenna Bush came on a TV show recently and was in conversation with Traces Ellis Ross and Oprah Winfrey. It was here that they queried her on her proposal.

And at that, Jenna had replied:

“I, like many of us, was taught to grow up dreaming of my wedding, not of my life, and I spent many years dreaming of my wedding and also waiting to be chosen. Well, here’s the thing, I’m the chooser.”
