Jordyn Wieber is an American Olympic gymnast. Jordyn Wieber and the US team Fierce Five won gold at the 2012 Olympics in London.

She is also the head coach for the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics program.

Jordyn Wieber was born on July 12, 1995, and is currently 28 years old as of 2024. Jordyn Marie Wieber is originally from DeWitt, Michigan. Jordyn’s parents are Rita (née Reifsnyder) and David Wieber. Similarly, she has three siblings and is the third child among them. Her siblings are brother Ryan Wieber and sisters Kyra and Lindsay Wieber.

Her nationality is American, while her maternal grandmother is of Lebanese descent.

Regarding her studies, Jordyn enrolled as a freshman at UCLA in the fall of 2013. There she studied psychology and graduated in 2017.

Gymnastics in Childhood

Jordyn began gymnastics at a young age. She has stated that her parents enrolled her in gymnastics since she had exceptionally large muscles for a young child around the age of two or three.

Gymnastics, at such a young age, was a wonderful lesson where she could “run around and play and stuff and just have fun”. She paused briefly to attend dance class. Then, at the age of four, she returned to gymnastics and has been in that vocation ever since.

Jordyn later enrolled at John Geddert. Jordyn was handpicked by John for his Silverstars program, and by the age of ten, she had advanced to Level 10 of the Junior Olympic program. She later qualified for the international elite in 2006.

 Jordyn Wieber: Professional life, Career

Professionally, Jordyn Wieber is an Olympic gymnast who helped the United States win Team Gold at the 2012 London Games and was the World Women’s All-Around Champion in 2011. After years of competition, Jordyn announced her retirement from gymnastics on March 6, 2015.

At the 2011 Tokyo World Championships, she also won gold medals in the Team and All-around categories. She is also a member of Team Fierce Five. Jordyn was joined by Gabby Douglas, McKayla Maroney, Aly Raisman, and Kyla Ross. Jordyn was the first to retire from elite gymnastics.

Jordyn Wieber helped Fierce Five win gold in the 2012 London Olympics. Following that, the crew appeared on The Today Show and Late Show with David Letterman. They then took part in the MTV Video Music Awards in September of that year. They also took part in the Kellogg’s Tour of Gymnastics Champions, which began in September and traveled to 40 cities.

Later in November, the Fierce Five visited President Barack Obama at the White House and appeared on Dancing with the Stars to promote retired gymnast Shawn Johnson. The trio was also nominated for Best Team in the 2013 ESPY Awards. In August 2013, Fierce Five was inducted into the USA Gymnastics Hall of Fame.

Jordyn Wieber won the U.S. all-around championship twice, in 2011 and 2012. She was also the 2011 World All-around Champion. Jordyn’s spectacular Elite Career featured three medals at the 2011 World Championships and four U.S. senior national crowns. Similarly, she won the 2008 U.S. junior all-around, vault, and floor exercise championships, as well as the American Cup all-around title in 2009, 2011, and 2012.

Jordyn dominated the competition at the 2010 Pacific Rim Championships, taking four gold medals and one silver. Her first international competition came at the 2007 Junior Pan American Championships. Jordyn won gold medals in uneven bars and balance beam, silver in all-around, and bronze in floor exercise.

Coaching Career

In 2013, Jordyn inked a sponsorship deal with Adidas Gymnastics. She joined UCLA the same year and became the Team Manager for their gymnastics team for her first three years, as well as a volunteer assistant coach her final year (2016-17).

She continued in this job after graduation. She was a volunteer assistant coach for the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Jordyn then worked as the Bruins’ floor exercise coach, helping them finish the 2018 and 2019 regular seasons rated first in the event. Jordyn, along with UCLA assistant coaches Chris Waller and Randy Lane, earned the West Region Assistant Coaches of the Year award in 2018.

Later, on April 24, 2019, Vice-Chancellor and Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek named Jordyn Wieber as the head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks gymnastics team. With her employment at Arkansas, she became the first Olympic champion gymnast to lead a collegiate women’s gymnastics program. She is now doing this function.

Advocacy

All five Fierce Five women come forward as survivors of Larry Nassar’s systematic sexual assault of US female gymnasts. Jordyn testified in court on January 19, 2018. She testified that she was sexually molested by Larry Nassar, USA Gymnastics’ long-term team doctor. Then, on May 16, 2018, it was revealed that she, along with the other survivors, would receive the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

She has also been an ardent advocate for victims of child sexual assault. Similarly, Jordyn has used the sport of gymnastics to motivate and inspire generations of young girls and others across the country. She also speaks at numerous programs and events. One of the noteworthy stages she has discussed is TEDx UCLA in 2019.
