Kim Foxx attended Lincoln Park High School and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

In 2016, Foxx ran for the position of Cook County State’s Attorney, challenging the incumbent Anita Alvarez in the Democratic primary.

She won the primary election and went on to win the general election, becoming the first African American woman to hold the position.

As State’s Attorney, Kim has focused on criminal justice reform, including efforts to reduce the number of people held in pretrial detention and to reduce racial disparities in the criminal justice system.

She has also advocated for policies to combat gun violence and address the opioid epidemic.
