Real-life to reel-life: a love story that went haywire

MTV started a reality TV series titled ‘Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County’ which was primarily meant to concentrate on the personal lives of a few wealthy students at Laguna Beach High School. Kristin Cavallari was one of the students on the show. At that time, she was romancing her senior and present-day actor, Stephen Colletti.

During the course of the two years that the show was aired, Kristin Cavallari found that Stephen Colletti had drifted away from her. She also found that he had become close to her co-star, Lauren Conrad, and was possibly cheating on her. Her relations with Stephen got strained.

She later realized that to gain popularity, the show producers had tried to manipulate the cast and subjected them to lying in order to make some pressure on them and create scenes and dramas. But eventually, it resulted in an unbridgeable gap between Kristin Cavallari and Stephen Colletti.

She later wrote in her book ‘Balancing in heels: My journey to Health, Happiness and making it all work’ that:

“He [Stephen Colletti] was my entire world, and we loved hard and fought hard,”

She further adds:

“Surprisingly, the producers had a bigger effect, as they controlled and mapped our lives more than we were aware. One of the most hurtful things they did was pressure Stephen to spend time with another girl from our show, Lauren, while he and I were dating.”

The impact of this Show was so much on Kristin Cavallari that she had lost faith in men and relationships.

Kristin Cavallari’s marriage and the secret of her strong bonding

During the shooting of ‘The Hills’, Kristin Cavallari was invited for a date by a Chicago athlete. Her experience on this date was not good. Hence when her publicist told her that the football player, Jay Cutler had requested for a date with her, Kristin Cavallari was skeptical.

She soon found that her fears were unfounded. She took a year to get over her feelings and went to meet Jay after his match. The meeting sparked a swift and intense romance and Kristin Cavallari got engaged to Jay Cutler in April 2011.

But she nonetheless valued her freedom and desire to work. So when she felt that things were not going her way, she called off the engagement. She also went to consult a therapist. She says:

“I credit [the therapist] for saving our relationship,”
“She opened up our eyes to the other person’s perspective and gave us great tools for communications…we still periodically see her to this day.”

Kristin Cavallari kept her self-respect and freedom and made it clear to Jay Cutler about it. This understanding between them helped save and nurture her relationship and has given life to it. She has three children with Jay Cutler and their marriage is still going strong and happy.

Kristin Cavallari’s love-and-hate relationship with Chicago

Kristin Cavallari has stayed in Chicago for a few years before shifting t Laguna Beach to reside with her father and brother. Her career debuted in Laguna Beach and flourished in Los Angeles. So when she got married to Jay Cutler and moved to Chicago, she was a bit wary.

She had a tryst with the law in Chicago in September 2013 when she was penalized for speeding and driving an out-of-state license car for more than 90 days. She would also be away from Hollywood with which she had gained her recognition. Even after two years, he was not convinced of the place. She had told Elle magazine:

“Jay hates L.A. And Chicago’s just not home.”

Her cold attitude towards Chicago seems to have changed over the years. As she now readies to leave Chicago, she feels that she is going to miss Chicago. She says:

“Not only were all 3 of my babies born here, it’s where it all began with Jay, it brought me closer to my mom who has become my best friend, I’ve made some amazing girlfriends, and I’ve really enjoyed being back here (a lot of people don’t know I lived here when I was younger). Thanks for all the good times, Chicago.”
