LaTocha Scott was born on the 2nd of October 1973 in Atlanta, Georgia. Her father, Randolph Scott is a minister, and her mother, Gloria McFarlin is a teacher by profession.

She has a younger sister, Tamika Scott is also an R&B singer and songwriter. They are of British-Scottish-Irish ethnicity.

Education, Early Career

In 1991, LaTocha Scott graduated from Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia. Prior to that, she attended the Tri-Cities High School of Performing Arts in her hometown from where she got a transfer.

Since she was a child, she had a keen interest in music. At the age of 6, she started singing in the local events and talent shows. After that, she recorded her first song along with her sister, Tamika when she was 11. Later, she joined the music group, Precise.

Journey With Xscape

In 1991, LaTocha Scott started the musical group, Xscape with the members, Tamika, Kandi, and Tamera. In 1992, they performed in BET’s Teen Summit which turned out to be a big success for the band.

Later, the band was discovered by record producer, Jermaine Dupri who signed under his recording label, So So Def.

Under the recording label, the group released its debut album, Hummin’ Comin’ at ‘Cha with 11 tracks. Within no time, the album has sold millions of copies. Also, the album peaked at the 17th position on Billboard with certified platinum by the RIAA.

The same year, the group released the singles, Just Kickin’ It and Understanding. Later, she launched the band’s albums 1995- Off the Hook and 1998- Traces of My Lipstick. However, in 1999, she abandoned the group to pursue a solo career.

Solo Career

As a solo artist, her first song, Promises was released under the album, NFL Jams. Moving forward, in the early 2000s, she signed up with Sony Urban to release her debut album. However, the album was never released due to label issues.

In 2012, LaTocha Scott launched the single, Bad Timing. 

Besides the music, she appeared in TV series like R&B Divas: Atlanta and Xscape: Still Kickin’ It. Also, in 2005, she appeared in Fair Game in the supporting role of Vanessa.
