At last!!! The lawsuit filed by former director of The Walking Dead TV series and CAA against AMC gets a trial date of 2020!

The director of the TV series The Walking Dead Frank Darabont and the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has seen some ray of hope. It has been more than five years since they sued AMC over profit shares of the show. The half-a-decade-old case has now got a trial date and also a new Judge.

Justice Joel Cohen gives a trial date to The Walking Dead lawsuit

Justice Joel Cohen took over the charge of the case after the previous judge Justice Eileen Bransten retired at the end of last year. Joel Cohen told the lawyers of both sides that the trial of the case would commence on 11 May 2020. He also said that the jury selection for this case would be done from 4 May 2020 and he feels that the trial would take around a month to decide.

Joel also informed the parties that he is linking this case with the other case filed by the director of Shawshank Redemption and the uber-agency against the cabler in early 2018.

The reaction of the parties and Lawyers

There was joy in members of both parties. Both sides claimed that it was a victory for them and their crews. Lawyer Chad Fitzgerald of Kinsella Weitzman Iser Kump & Aldisert for Frank Darabont and CAA said:

“We are thrilled that Justice Cohen set a trial date, and we look forward to trying both the original self dealing case and additional audit claims before a jury.”

The AMC main attorney Orin Snyder said:

“We look forward to our day in court and proving that this case is nothing more than a money grab by CAA and a gang of Hollywood lawyers who have already been paid millions and millions of dollars for their participation in The Walking Dead,”

A lot of things have happened in the last five years and a lot may likely happen between now and May 2020.

The lawsuit of Frank Darabont and CAA – the highlights

The director of The Walking Dead Frank Darabont and CAA sued AMC. They filed the lawsuit at the end of the year 2013. They stated that AMC has cheated them of huge profit shares and they are fighting for it.
AMC removed Frank somewhere midway in season 2. Glen Mazzara replaced him but AMC fired him too after 2 seasons. He and comic creator Robert Kirkman and a few others also filed a case against AMC over profit shares cheating in August 2017.
