He then worked it full-time before he was elected to New York’s 3rd State Senate district in 2010.

He has supported a $250 million cut to the MTA payroll tax in December 2011. Also, he formed the PFC Joseph Dwyer PTSD Peer-to-Peer Veterans aid program as part of the 2012-13 New York State Budget.

He was selected as one of 12 associates in the Patriot Program by the National Republican Congressional Committee. The program was planned to help preserve vulnerable Republican incumbents heading into the 2016 election.

Additionally, Lee ran unchallenged in the 2018 Republican primary. In the general election in November, his chief opponent was Democratic candidate Perry Gershon, who also had the endorsement of the Working Families Party. He defeated Gershon, 51.5%-47.4%.

Lee Zeldin has run unchallenged again in the 2020 Republican primary. He won over Democratic challenger Nancy Goroff on November 3, 2020, general election.
