Lupita Nyong’o pays an emotional tribute to her friend, Chadwick Boseman on his third death anniversary!
Hollywood actress, Lupita Nyong’o paid an emotional tribute to her late friend and co-star, Chadwick Boseman. Colon cancer defeated him three years ago. Actress Lupita posted this tribute to Chadwick on her Instagram.

Recently, Lupita took to her Instagram to share a tribute that she paid to her friend and co-star, Chadwick Boseman whom she lost to cancer in 2020.
Lupita misses him a lot and on his third death anniversary on 28 August 2023, she uploaded a black and white picture of the two at a Korean airport. This was in the year 2018 when they were there for an event.
The caption read:
“Three years ago today, I experienced a singular pain at the news of @chadwickboseman’s death. The confusion was so profound that it took months to trust the feeling of joy again,”
The picture shows the two doing the baby’s heart gesture with their fingers. Further, Lupita explained:
“We had just learned to do the baby heart with our fingers. Here Chadwick was adding his suave flare. We spent a glorious 72 hours there, and the memory fills me with so much joy.”
Lupita assured and consoled his fans with these words:
“Death is hard to understand, maybe even harder to accept. But the love generated from the life he lived will fuel every anniversary marking his absence. Chadwick may no longer be in our photos, but he will always be in our hearts.”
Chadwick Boseman and his life
Chadwick Boseman was born on 29 November 1976. He was an actor who did excellent portrayals of real-life and heroic characters. He was from Anderson, South Carolina.
Chadwick began his career in 1993. He was in the Black Panther series and in it, Lupita was his on-screen love interest. He was a highly versatile actor who did justice to his roles.
His fans still remember his awesome portrayal of T’Challa in the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies.
Chadwick had studied direction at Howard University and was also a screenwriter. He had a fellowship for it and started with theater. He won several accolades during his career that lasted for more than two decades.
Chadwick was married to singer Taylor Simone Ledward. The two started a relationship in 2015. In October 2019, Chadwick proposed to Taylor and she said yes. The two had a secret wedding. News about the wedding came out only after his death.
Chadwick was a philanthropist and supported many charities. Chadwick’s mother was a nurse while his father dealt in the upholstery business. Both were Afro-Africans. In his teen years, Chadwick wanted to become an architect.
Chadwick and his disease and death
Chadwick had some medical symptoms for which he approached doctors in 2016. They did certain tests on him and diagnosed him as a case of stage 3 colon cancer. Chadwick kept his illness a secret. Not many people knew about it. Hollywood reporter states:
“Only a handful of non-family members knew that Boseman was sick… with varying degrees of knowledge about the severity of [his] condition.”
The actor underwent several surgeries and courses of chemotherapy. Those helped him to continue and finish his film projects. But they could not save his life. Despite therapy, Chadwick’s colon cancer progressed further to become stage 4. He developed complications of the cancer and expired at his home in Los Angeles. His wife and family were beside him at that time.
Chadwick’s death came on 28 August 2020 when he was just 43 years of age. Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president and CCO said:
“Each time he stepped on set, he radiated charisma and joy, and each time he appeared on screen, he created something truly indelible […] Now he takes his place [as] an icon for the ages.”
